Does The Good Stand Out?

Writer's picture: glenhaneyglenhaney

In judging the merits of my own poetry

I jump on the No’s with alacrity

While a Yes gets second guessed and

A dubious pause precedes self-applause.

Why is it so easy to recognize flaws

While The good must be teased out

With the agony of doubt? This biased

Perspective transcends poetry. When

I meet someone new, it’s also true, the

First noted is the bloated ego while the

Saintly smile must go the extra mile.

I love the honesty in this; it is only in recognizing our inherent biases that we stand a chance to change it

Your small poem touches a big universe. I think in many instances we must look deeper to see the good in people and circumstances.

Ray: Perhaps, but my point was WHY must we look deeper? Do we have to dig the good out while the bad stands out?

Important reminder that recognizing the positives (even before the negatives) promotes happy times :)
