Fall Harvest

Writer: glenhaneyglenhaney

I walked up the hill to the church and turned left

At the Parsonage. The merchants were out waiting

For shoppers looking for Autumn fruits and vegetables.

Suzy Brown, known in town as a sharp eye for a buck,

Had piled her harvest of watermelons, cantaloupes

and honeydews on a table under a hand-painted sign:

MELON COLONY FOR SALE!

As I turned the corner into First, a gust of wind blew her sign

down and I met a stampede of melons gathering speed.

Last-seen: The entire Colony running a red light at third.
